What Track Are You On?

By Billi Lim

I'm very sure many of you have always been asking this question: "Why am I here?" "What is our purpose here on earth? It is just to go to school, get a job, marry, have children, bring them up and die? And your children will later go into the same routine in their lives. Is that what life is all about? Is it the correct route? In order to measure that, we need to look at the end. Our end is to be happy.

The fact that there are so many unhappy people and families in the world should open up our eyes to re-look at the kind of path most people are taking. Perhaps something is wrong in the normal path that most people are taking.

Most people would not admit it and they will continue guiding their children to take the same path they have taken. Teachers will continue to teach their students to follow the miserable path which they have taken. Ask yourself, "How many teachers do you know are living a happy, fulfilling life?"

We need to wake up and stop living in the rut. The Webster dictionary define 'rut' as a monotonous routine. It's OK if the monotonous routine is giving us 'happiness' . But if its is not, it's about time you get out of it before it's too late!

Personally I find that something is wrong at the beginning of the path i.e go to school and then get a job.

Analyse the following statement:

"If you always do what other people have been doing, you will always get what they have been getting."

And what they are getting are a lot of unfulfilled lives!

I've known many friends. Some become top mangers, others directors in the government services. They ended up rather miserable, frustrated and financially insufficient. They were smart. They were top of the class. But sad to say they went into the track which most people do:- go to school & get a job track!

This is one track you should really examine. Personally if its your temporary track, its OK but if you intend to spend the prime part of your life on this track, you will end up like those friends whom I talked about.

You may not believe me but when you come to the age when you have to retire from your job or got retrenched, you will remember this article of mine.

One of the prerequisite to lead a fulfilled life is you must have enough money and enough time to do what you want, when you want.

But most people spend half of their life-time purchasing a home and accumulate some saving and retirement benefits and it just takes 6 months of unemployment to lose it all!

Do not be like the person who says, "I'm struggling to make ends meet today on an income I once dreamed of making."

Remember, there are 3 things certain in life:- Death, taxes and inflation. Unless you consider to take a different track you will end up like most people who will have too much MONTH at the end of the money. This brings us to the fact that in life we may have to pluck up our courage to take a different track. We may stumble along this way. We may make mistakes but isn't that what is life is all about?

Your fellow traveler in time
