The Attribute

By Billi Lim

Through the years I have watched many people who have achieved academic excellence but failed to achieve financial excellence. I have also observed people who failed to achieve academic excellence but somehow were able to achieve financial excellence. What is this special attribute which is absent in the first case but present in the second case? It definitely has nothing to do with academics or pure knowledge.

This is further accentuated by the fact that if mere knowledge were able to make us rich, then all the professors in the world would be multi-millionaires. I'm not trying to run down 'academic excellence' - far from it. But without a special attribute, everything that one learns will remain 'dead' and filed up in archives and will not help mankind in any way - until it meets a man who has this attribute and truly use it for the benefit of mankind.

Napoleon Hill has accurately stated that only "applied knowledge" is of value.

But what is it in a man that will make him apply the knowledge he acquired?

You will find the answer in the following story:-

Once a boy spotted Walt Disney Walking in a park. The boy has been told by his mother that Walt is one of the wisest and smartest men in the world. The boy approached Walt and said, "I was told that you are one of the wisest men in the world."

Walt said' "Well I don't know about that but I'll share with you a story about a wise man. If you follow the advice in the story, you too will become a wise man."

A little boy once asked the wisest man in the world, "How can I grow up to be a wise man like you? The wise man said, "There are 4 words that will guide you." Do these 4 things and you will have the opportunity to become a wise man.

Here are the 4 words:-

1. The first word, little boy, is THINK. Think about the principles and value you believe in.

2. The second word, little boy, is BELIEVE. Believe in yourself, based on the thinking you've done about your values and principles.

3. The third word, little boy, is DREAM. Dream about something you want to do, based on your belief in yourself and based on the thinking you've done about your values and principles.

4. The forth word, little boy, is DARE. Dare to make your dreams come true, based on your belief in yourself, based on the thinking you've done about your values and principles.

Yes, if you Dare not, no knowledge or qualifications in the world will be able to make your dreams come true. All the things which you learn will only be second-hand experience". Dare it and Do it, only then will you be able to experience what "life" is all about.

To dare is to experience the thing which we learned.
To dare is to make words into reality.
To dare is to risk exposing ourselves.
To dare is to 'live'.

Your fellow traveler in time.
